Turning Point One

This is the moment about 25 pages into the script (or 25 minutes into the movie) where the protagonist can no longer turn back—they are thrust into conflict with the antagonist and must remain so until they finally defeat the antagonist or are ultimately defeated by the antagonist.

How do I write Turning Point One?

Ask yourself these questions:

  • What would escalate the situation to force the character to take actions they wouldn’t ordinarily take?
  • What can the antagonist do to the protagonist, either directly or indirectly, which would destroy or completely upend he protagonist’s comfortable life?
